Cobe wins masterplan competition to transform Bremerhaven harbour into resilient, mixed-use city district

Cobe has been announced as winner of the competition to transform the former industrial harbor in Bremerhaven, Germany, into a 140 ha robust and resilient city district. Appreciating both new and existing structures, the masterplan is based on three equally important strategies for the blue, the green and the build. The project gives the water back to the city with a planned bio pool and a 6 km long harbor promenade, among others. The city district is planned with a focus on small neigbourhoods with their own social and cultural catalysts. The catalysts are reused historical buildings that preserve the former harbour’s inherent DNA, while helping to set the masterplan in motion.

Created in collaboration with Transsolar and SHP Ingenieure, the project consists of mixed-use developments integrated into the industrial heritage architecture preserved on-site, providing homes for approx. 7,000 inhabitants and workspaces for another 4,000.
